FUYA I

Bringing arts and crafts back into a functional space

Built on a site that previously housed a Kyoto Machiya, FUYA I retains many elements of classical Machiya construction. A long thin path from the street leads to a modest entrance and into a corridor, which opens onto a lounge area with a small garden known as Tsuboniwa. The corridor and lounge area is decorated with pottery by the well-known artist Masanobu Ando. Relax in the safety of a private space tucked away from the bustling city streets.
